Our contractor is getting ready to start construction work on the N. Peachtree sidewalk renovation project, which is located just south of Chastain Manor at 561 North Peachtree St. to around the curve, ending at 455 N. Peachtree (about 100 feet in total). They are surveying now, and will be mobilizing for demolition starting next week, April 6. The sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the project, about 4 months.
This project was contracted to address safety concerns, including erosion undermining the existing sidewalk and a steep drop from the sidewalk to the drainage ditch along the roadway. Proposed construction includes concrete paving, asphalt paving, relocation of utilities, a fieldstone retaining wall, roadway striping and stormwater drainage facilities. Both travel lanes will be repaved in the project area upon completion. You can see the current state of the project area here.
